You will need to open the window halfway. Put the one built-in meter on the glass, you will do this by placing the meter on the glass of the halfway rolled down window. The device has a special opening on it that will allow it to easily slide onto your window.
The meter will begin to work once you place it on the half way open window. You will not have to turn the device on. Read what is displayed on the window tint meter. You will be able to see the exact amount of tint that you have on your windows.
Once you have the level of tint on your vehicle, you can go to your state website for state police and it will tell you whether or not the tint on your windows is against the law in the state you reside.
The level of tint is different in each state; please keep this in mind if you happen to try to register your vehicle in a new state. What is considered acceptable in one state may not be acceptable in another.
